FUNCTIONAL FITNESS

What is functional fitness?

Functional fitness can also be called work conditioning or work hardening, except we are focused on everyday tasks for a broad population. It is an intensive, goal-oriented program designed to restore an individual systemic, neuromusculoskeletal (strength, endurance, movement, flexibility, and motor control) and cardiopulmonary functions. The program involves exercises as well as functional tasks or activities. Some examples are sit to stand, step ups, lift and carry, push and pull. These exercises carry over to everyday tasks such as getting out of a chair, walking the steps at a stadium, carrying groceries, and pushing a cart at a warehouse store.
